Thirteen heroes honoured at annual Pride of Britain Awards ceremony

The annual Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards recognised 13 people for public spirit, selflessness, and bravery, as reported by the Manchester Evening News. Public nominations provided tens of thousands of submissions for this year's ceremony. [1]

Among the honourees, Andrew Franks from Manchester received the Outstanding Bravery award after he intervened against knife-wielding terrorist Jihad Al-Shamie during an attack at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue, the Manchester Evening News reported. Business Recorder noted that Pakistani-origin surgeon Asif Hasan received the Pride of Britain Lifetime Achievement Award. [1][2]

The Pride of Britain Awards have taken place in the United Kingdom annually since May 1999 and were first televised on ITV in April 2000, according to Wikipedia. Organisers hosted this year's event in partnership with the Daily Mirror and P&O Cruises, the Manchester Evening News reported. [1][8]
