Thirteen-year-old Zac from Ebbw Vale in Blaenau Gwent has received the Child of Courage award at the Pride of Britain Awards, the BBC reported. The teenager earned the national award after taking control of his mother's vehicle when she lost consciousness while driving. [1]

The incident occurred on the A40 in Herefordshire while the car was travelling at 60mph, according to the BBC. When his mother Nicola fainted at the wheel, Zac grabbed the steering wheel to guide the car safely into the central reservation. He then turned off the engine and phoned emergency services by calling 999. [1]

Nicola stated that she was incredibly proud of her son and believed she would not be alive if he had not been present during the emergency, the BBC reported. [1]
