HEROIC BREAKING NEWS

Editorial standards

How Heroic Breaking News chooses, checks and reports its stories.

The Heroic rule

Every story on Heroic must answer at least one of these questions: Who acted courageously? Who overcame? Who helped? Who created a solution? Who protected somebody? Who rebuilt? Who contributed? What breakthrough materially helps humanity?

If a story cannot answer one of those questions, it does not belong on Heroic, regardless of how big the headline is.

Where our news comes from

Headlines are gathered from publishers' own feeds and link to the original publisher. Each headline is checked against the Heroic rule before it appears. Our own reports are written from those publishers' reporting, and every report lists its sources so a reader can check them.

How our reports are made

Our reports are drafted with the help of software from the sources listed under each one, to rules that forbid adding facts that are not in the sources, and are reviewed by our editors.

Accuracy

We report what the sources establish, and we say plainly when something is claimed rather than confirmed. We never trivialise the adversity behind a story.

Independence

Advertising and paid articles are always labelled, and never sit among the news unmarked. Advertisers do not decide what we report.

Submissions

Stories sent in by readers are reviewed by the Heroic editorial team and checked before anything is published. Submission does not guarantee publication.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we correct it. See our corrections policy.
