Two Derbyshire police officers will receive national awards for saving a woman's life following an incident at Belper railway station on February 24, Derbyshire Live reported. PC Lauren Wheelwright and an unnamed officer responded after a woman jumped in front of an oncoming train, severing both of her legs above the knee. [1]

Upon arriving at the scene, the two officers found the woman lying on the track and bleeding profusely, according to Derbyshire Live. The officers immediately grabbed a first-aid kit, jumped down onto the railway line, and applied tourniquets to both of her legs to control the life-threatening bleeding. [1]

The prompt action of the officers successfully stopped the severe blood loss. Derbyshire Live reported that the woman would have bled to death without the immediate intervention and selfless efforts of the two officers. [1]
