The Times of India reported that nine Coimbatore residents were honoured on Sunday as Kovai Heroes for their sustained community service. The award ceremony took place at the Merlis Hotel, where Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar presented the awards. [1]

According to the Times of India, the recipients were selected for putting community welfare above money, power, and authority. The individual efforts recognised included a man who sold his own assets to build homes for tribal families, a woman who rescued and protected thousands of birds, and another woman who ensures that unclaimed bodies are cremated with dignity. This recognition follows similar civic award ceremonies elsewhere. As HEROIC BREAKING NEWS reported earlier, Tiverton held its annual mayor's civic service at St Peter's Church on October 11 to recognise local volunteers and organisations, while the Pride of Britain Awards recently honoured 13 people for public service and bravery.
