IOL reported that Marvin Phillips swam out deep into the sea to reach the individual in distress. Video footage of the rescue was captured on a cellphone and subsequently shared widely on social media. [1][2]
After bringing the individual back to the shore, Mr Phillips performed resuscitation directly on the beach. Community leader Eric Apelgren confirmed that the victim survived the ordeal and praised Mr Phillips for showing courage by entering the ocean while others watched in fear. [1]
