Good Samaritan helps rescue surfer in distress off Miami Beach
A runner alerted authorities after spotting a surfer struggling against rough ocean waves near South Pointe Park Pier in South Beach on Sunday afternoon.

A surfer was rescued from rough waters near South Pointe Park Pier in Miami Beach on Sunday afternoon after a bystander spotted him in distress, WSVN reported. Strong winds and rough conditions caused the surfer to struggle in the ocean. [1]
According to WSVN, runner Jawad Aflak spotted the man in distress during his weekly run. Aflak saw a surfboard fly into the air and realized a surfer was attached to it while being pounded by waves and pushed towards the pier. [1]
Aflak captured cellphone video of the incident and worked to get the surfer the help he needed. He expressed gratitude that he was in the right place at the right time to assist during the emergency, according to WSVN. [1]
