Driver Dies After Stopping to Help at Mobile Highway Crash Scene

A driver died after stopping to assist at the scene of a crash on Highway 90 in Mobile, Alabama, FOX10 News reported. Mehul "Mike" Patel pulled over on October 10 to help individuals involved in an accident where a vehicle had overturned. [1]

According to FOX10 News, the incident began when multiple vehicles crashed, causing one of the automobiles to flip onto its roof. Patel and another driver pulled over at the crash site to offer assistance to those involved. [1]

Investigators stated that while Patel was assisting at the scene, he was struck by a passing automobile, FOX10 News reported. The driver of the passing vehicle was identified by police as Victor Carnes, who fled the scene following the collision. [1]

Friends and family described Patel as a selfless person who died while helping a stranger, according to FOX10 News. His friend, Alpesh Patel, who had known him for over 20 years, noted that Patel was part of a close group of friends. [1]
