Rescue duck learns to walk with custom prosthetic feet

A duck named Stu has received a pair of prosthetic feet at an animal sanctuary in Pennsylvania, AOL.com reported on October 29. The rescue organization, J and J Farms Animal Sanctuary, announced on October 23 that Stu was learning to walk using the new medical devices. [1]

The sanctuary took Stu into its care in May. Reports differ on Stu's condition before receiving the prosthetics. AOL.com reported that Stu was born without a leg, while earlier reports from HEROIC BREAKING NEWS noted that Stu lost both feet to severe frostbite at the sanctuary's location in Saxonburg, Pennsylvania. Prostheses are artificial devices designed to replace missing body parts lost through trauma, illness, or conditions present at birth, and they function to restore physical mobility. Sanctuary staff stated a few days after the fitting that Stu was super excited, noting that he had figured out how to stand up and take a few steps in his new feet. [1][5]
