Lukan Griffith jumped into a Birmingham canal to save a six-year-old boy who was drowning near the Sea Life Centre in the city centre, Birmingham Live reported. The incident occurred off Canalside Walk at Brindleyplace after the child's mother called out for assistance. [1]

According to Birmingham Live, Griffith had just left friends at a local café when the mother alerted him that her son was in the water. He immediately swam to the middle of the canal, located the child, and secured him under his arm. [1]

Griffith then swam back to the towpath carrying the six-year-old, who was shivering, crying, and had swallowed canal water, Birmingham Live reported. The rescue prevented a fatal drowning in the city centre. [1]

The canal rescue follows similar emergency interventions in the West Midlands region, as HEROIC BREAKING NEWS reported earlier. On October 23, a dog walker kept a man's head above water in a Tipton canal when his mobility scooter became submerged, allowing firefighters to complete the rescue. [1][2]
