Passing hiker helps rescue injured man in Newlands Forest

A passing hiker helped initiate the rescue of a 55-year-old man in Newlands Forest on Friday morning, Arrive Alive reported. The passer-by spotted the hiker in difficulty just off the trail and immediately contacted emergency responders on the correct emergency phone line. [1]

Following the call, rescue teams and SANParks Table Mountain National Park rangers deployed to the scene, according to Arrive Alive. A Western Cape Government Health and Wellness EMS paramedic evaluated and treated the injured hiker on the mountain. [1]

Rescuers secured the man in a stretcher and carried him along the trail to a nearby rescue vehicle, Arrive Alive said. The vehicle drove him down the path to an awaiting ambulance, which transported him to a local hospital for further medical treatment. [1]
