Marvin Phillips Rescues Unresponsive Swimmer from Ocean Waters in Durban

A Durban man pulled an unresponsive swimmer to safety from the ocean on Saturday, the Cape Times reported. Marvin Phillips entered the water at Brighton Beach after noticing a person experiencing difficulty in the water, according to the outlet. The Cape Times said a five-minute video captured by a bystander shows Mr Phillips running across the beach sand in his swimming shorts before swimming out to reach the floating man. [1]

While the Cape Times reported that the rescue took place at Brighton Beach, IOL referred to the location as Ansteys Beach. As HEROIC BREAKING NEWS reported earlier, Mr Phillips successfully resuscitated the victim on the shore after bringing him out of the water. The Cape Times noted that Mr Phillips tactically navigated past rocks to reach the shoreline, and later dismissed any hero status attached to his name. [1][2][8]

According to the Cape Times, Mr Phillips explained that he acted solely to save a human life, stating that he did not do it for recognition.
