Jordan Sisneros, a paramedic with American Medical Response, has received top honors for performing a rare emergency medical procedure that saved a teenager after a car accident. Daily Dispatch reported that the rescue took place following a crash last November. [1]
During the complex vehicle rescue, Sisneros conducted an emergency cricothyrotomy, according to Daily Dispatch. The advanced procedure involves making an incision between the thyroid and cricoid cartilages to establish a direct airway. [1]
Medical experts and Global Medical Response stated that the intervention is performed when a patient's airway is severely compromised and air cannot reach the lungs, Daily Dispatch reported. [1]
The honor follows other recent recognitions for life-saving community actions, such as Bridgeport presenting a Good Samaritan award to Mackenzie Holmes for performing CPR on Daniel Rowan during a basketball game, as HEROIC BREAKING NEWS reported earlier. [4]
