A motorcyclist has recovered from life-threatening injuries to personally thank the air ambulance team that saved him, the Daily Express reported. Sam Ford-Powell, aged 23, spent nine months learning to walk again following a severe crash that occurred on May 4, 2025. [1]

According to the Daily Express, Ford-Powell was thrown over the handlebars of his motorcycle on the A596 near Siddick, close to Workington in Cumbria. He was traveling around a corner to a friend's house when the impact occurred, causing his helmet to come off. [1]

The crash left Ford-Powell with a split jaw, a crushed skull base, and stable fractures around his neck and spine, the Daily Express reported. Medical staff initially feared he would not survive, but he underwent extensive rehabilitation over nine months to regain his mobility. [1]

After regaining his ability to walk, Ford-Powell was able to join his mother to stand beside and thank the air ambulance heroes whose medical skill saved his life, according to the Daily Express. [1]
