The North-East Affected Area Development Society has assisted nearly 100,000 flood-affected residents across Upper Assam, Assam Times reported. The grassroots organisation, based in Jorhat, reached over 150 villages and provided aid to nearly 20,000 vulnerable families following devastating floods in 2026. [1]

Assam Times reported that the aid efforts focused on the worst-affected areas within the Dhemaji, Jorhat, Golaghat, Sivasagar, and Charaideo districts. The organisation carried out rapid needs assessments and coordinated with local community volunteers, humanitarian agencies, and regional authorities to deliver relief. [1]

Unusually heavy monsoon rainfall over Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, and eastern Assam triggered the disaster when a cloudburst occurred on 19 July 2026 in Mon district, Nagaland. Hill-fed rivers and tributaries overflowed, causing widespread flooding that damaged infrastructure, public property, and agriculture across Upper Assam. [2]

The organisation now plans to initiate early recovery and livelihood restoration programs to help affected communities rebuild, according to Assam Times. [1]
