The World Health Organization announced on Wednesday that it has launched a new artificial intelligence powered hub for health professionals. UN News reported that the system aims to help workers identify alcohol related risks and open conversations with patients. [1]

According to UN News, the platform helps address sensitive topics, including the established link between alcohol consumption and cancer. The tool is designed to support medical staff in identifying early warning signs during routine health consultations. [1]

Dr Carina Ferreira Borges, the World Health Organization Europe regional adviser on alcohol, told UN News that alcohol harm is not abstract. She noted that it can lead to heart disease, liver disease, and harm to babies exposed to alcohol before birth. [1]

Public health initiatives have historically driven major global health improvements through systematic intervention. Public health interventions in the twentieth century doubled life expectancy in many nations from around 47 years in 1900 to over 76 years by the end of the century. [3]
