Engineers have developed an adaptive physical rehabilitation system that uses generative artificial intelligence to offer personalized support for stroke patients, MIT Tech Review reported. Former MIT postdoctoral researcher Johannes Lachner, now an assistant professor at Purdue University, and former visiting student Noah Geiger created the system to learn directly from physical therapists. [1]

A stroke occurs when blood flow to part of the brain is reduced or blocked, leading to cell death and impaired brain function. Strokes leave five million people with long-term impairments every year, according to MIT Tech Review. [1][2]

The new technology addresses a growing global shortage of physical therapists that makes it difficult for patients to receive adequate care. By combining artificial intelligence with human expertise, the technology aims to expand access to personalized stroke rehabilitation. [1]
