A new artificial intelligence system called REDMOD can detect hidden warning signs of pancreatic cancer long before the disease is visible on conventional scans, ScienceDaily reported. The technology identified subtle pancreatic tissue changes an average of 475 days before formal diagnosis. ScienceDaily stated that the model performed with nearly twice the sensitivity of experienced radiologists. [1]

The discovery adds to recent progress in understanding and combating the disease. As HEROIC BREAKING NEWS reported earlier, researchers analyzed nearly half a million individual pancreatic cancer cells to discover how the disease continuously alters its genetic structure to resist treatments. That research demonstrated that blocking a key gene in laboratory experiments could reverse those dangerous genetic changes. [2]

Treatment options have also advanced recently. As HEROIC BREAKING NEWS reported earlier, United States health regulators approved a daily pill called daraxonrasib, sold under the name Rasonque, for advanced pancreatic cancer. A clinical trial involving 500 patients showed that the medication, which targets multiple forms of the RAS protein to slow tumor growth, nearly doubled median overall survival to over 13 months. [3]

By spotting cancer-related changes at their earliest stages, the REDMOD artificial intelligence system aims to improve patient outcomes dramatically by enabling doctors to intervene well before conventional imaging technology can spot tumors. [1]

In short

  • The REDMOD artificial intelligence system identified hidden pancreatic cancer warning signs an average of 475 days before diagnosis.
  • REDMOD was nearly twice as sensitive at spotting early tissue changes as experienced radiologists.
  • Pancreatic cancer cells continuously reshape their genetic structure to evade medical treatments.
  • The FDA recently approved daraxonrasib, which nearly doubled median overall survival to over 13 months in clinical trials.
