Virginia high school to install quantum computer for student learning

Starting in January, students at Skyview High School in Virginia will gain direct access to an on-site quantum computer, New Scientist reported. The initiative will make Skyview the first high school in the United States to house such a system on its premises. [1]

The computer is an XQ1 model produced by the quantum computing and sensing company XeedQ, according to New Scientist. A demonstration of the machine took place at the Quantum World Congress 2026 in Maryland. The device is intended to serve as a hands-on educational tool to teach pupils the fundamental principles and components of quantum technology. [1]

The deployment comes as the broader quantum computing sector experiences increased expansion, New Scientist reported. Both governments and private investors are directing greater focus and resources toward developing quantum technologies and training future innovators in the field. [1]
