A high school student in Istanbul has developed a disaster messaging application called Crisis Connect, Good News Network reported. The system allows people to send messages and make calls over Bluetooth when cellular and internet communications fail. [1]

The student began developing the application after earthquakes struck southern Turkiye and northern Syria on February 6, 2023, according to Good News Network. Cell towers and network infrastructure were damaged or destroyed during the disaster, which interrupted standard communications when they were needed most. [1]

Text messaging typically relies on cellular networks, satellite systems, or internet connections. Crisis Connect bypasses traditional infrastructure by hopping across Bluetooth connections between nearby devices when standard network nodes are overloaded or damaged. [1][2][4]

Bluetooth technology uses logical transport systems like Asynchronous Connection-oriented logical transport to connect devices. The new application utilizes Bluetooth capabilities to maintain communication links even when cellular 4G networks collapse entirely. [1][3]
