A group of jet skiers known as the NYC Pirates rescued a 19-year-old teenager who jumped from the Brooklyn Bridge on Wednesday, the New York Post reported. The group reached the teenager in the critical seconds after he entered the East River and pulled him out of the water. [1]

According to the New York Post, the jet skiers navigated choppy waters to reach a police boat and hand off the injured teenager. One rider even entered the water to make the transfer smoother. James Reichelt, the president of the group, called the rescue crazy. Officers then rushed the teenager to a hospital in time to save his life. [1]

The Brooklyn Bridge spans the East River between Manhattan and Brooklyn and was the first fixed crossing of the river when it opened on May 24, 1883. Its construction pioneered the use of galvanized steel-wire cables for suspension and pneumatic caissons sunk into the riverbed to establish stable foundations for its towers. [3][4]

The quick action by the jet skiers allowed law enforcement to secure the teenager rapidly and provide medical transport, according to the New York Post. [1]
