Former Parachute Regiment officer Milos Stankovic has become the first person in the United Kingdom to be fitted with a new type of bionic upper arm prosthetic, the BBC reported. The 63-year-old from Plymouth lost his left arm and nearly died in a motorcycle crash outside Valladolid in northern Spain in 2025. [1]

The custom prosthetic was developed by Bristol-based company Open Bionics. The lightweight and hollow 3D-printed limb was specifically designed for an above-elbow amputation, which is medically known as a transhumeral prosthesis, according to the BBC. [1]

Stankovic stated that he felt very lucky to be the first person in Britain to receive the device. He expressed hope that the fitting of the new limb would allow him to return to extreme sports. [1]
