Former primary school teacher Peter Hodge has written a children's picture book featuring a prosthetic leg as a primary hero, InYourArea reported. Based in Manchester, Hodge drew from his personal experience as an amputee to create the story. He lost his leg to bone cancer when he was 22 years old. [1]
The picture book, titled The Adventures of Bobby and Robot Meg, is illustrated by Dan Crew and aimed at children between three and seven years old, according to InYourArea. The narrative follows Bobby, a young monkey with a limb difference, and Robot Meg, his robotic prosthetic leg and companion. [1]
Hodge created the character to address the lack of amputee representation in the books he read while growing up, InYourArea reported. The author based the character of Bobby loosely on himself and was inspired by the bedtime stories he shares with his daughter. [1]
The publication is set to launch alongside a series of storytelling assemblies held in primary schools, according to InYourArea. [1]
