IDF veteran Boris Baruch Shtonda completed the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii on October 10, according to The Jerusalem Post. Shtonda lost his right leg three years ago after being injured by an explosive device in northern Gaza while serving as a reservist in the IDF's Duvdevan unit. [1]

The Jerusalem Post reported that Shtonda competed in the division for athletes with disabilities. He completed the long-distance event using a custom-fitted, specialized running prosthetic. The race included a 3.8-kilometer swim, a 180-kilometer bicycle ride, and a full marathon. [1]

The Ironman World Championship originated in Hawaii in 1978 to combine swimming, cycling, and running endurance sports into a single event. The competition represents the annual culmination of qualification races held across the globe. [2][4]

According to The Jerusalem Post, Shtonda dedicated his race to wounded soldiers undergoing rehabilitation. [1]
