David Field, a 67-year-old amputee from Hemel Hempstead, is volunteering three times a week to help fellow patients recover after losing a limb, the Herts Advertiser reported. He works with individuals undergoing rehabilitation at the West Herts Therapy Unit located in Abbots Langley. [1]

According to the Herts Advertiser, Field lost his own leg eight years ago. A small mark on his foot developed into gangrene, and surgical attempts to restore his blood flow were unsuccessful. He later received physiotherapy at the same Abbots Langley therapy unit where he now offers support. [1]

Field explained that the initial shock of losing a limb is very daunting. He advised that new patients should not panic, noting that he chose to focus on moving forward after his operation, the Herts Advertiser reported. [1]
