Liang Kaiyu, an amputee in Jinan, China, transformed his personal struggle with a faulty prosthetic into a career by building and modifying artificial limbs for others, Xinhua reported on October 14, 2026. [1]

According to Xinhua, Liang lost most of his left leg in an accident and found that his original prosthetic buckled mid-stride and required frequent charging. To resolve these issues, he modified the device himself until it functioned smoothly. [1]

Since modifying his initial leg, Liang has crafted or refitted more than a dozen artificial limbs, Xinhua reported. His custom designs include prosthetics equipped with a mountain bike shock absorber at the ankle, a thruster for swimming, and self-programmed electronic knees and ankles. [1]

Going by the name Steel Leg online, Liang shares videos of his projects and earns a living by repairing prosthetics for other amputees, according to Xinhua. [1]
