Fijivillage reported that the 2026 Jaipur Foot Camp officially opened at Tamavua Twomey Hospital to provide artificial limbs to 650 amputees across Fiji. The initiative is fully funded by the Government of India and aims to restore independence and mobility for recipients. [1]
Health Minister Doctor Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu stated that receiving a prosthetic limb offers individuals the chance to walk independently, return to employment, pursue education, and engage fully in society. The initial Central Division phase at Tamavua Hospital runs from October 6 to October 21, specifically targeting 220 amputees. [1]
As HEROIC BREAKING NEWS reported earlier, the broader camp aims to serve 650 patients across Suva, Labasa, and Nadi by November 26. Technicians previously achieved a rate of manufacturing and fitting 21 prosthetic limbs in a single day during the opening week. [3]
The Jaipur foot prosthetic was originally developed in 1968 by Ram Chandra Sharma and P. K. Sethi. The ongoing medical effort in Fiji continues to deliver these custom prosthetics to assist local communities. [3]
