Dog rescued from River Lee in Cork seeks foster home

A black Patterdale dog that was rescued from the River Lee in Cork city earlier this month is now seeking a foster home, Cork Beo reported. The rescue occurred after Gustavo Morais jumped into the water without hesitation to save the struggling animal. Following the event, a bystander took in the dog to provide temporary shelter. [1]

Cork Beo reported that a video of the rescue was viewed by thousands of people, leading to Morais being identified and praised for his bravery. Morais did not seek recognition for his actions. The Cork Dog Action Welfare Group has since taken charge of finding the animal a permanent home. [1]

To assist with the placement, the Cork Dog Action Welfare Group offered to cover the costs for a foster carer, according to Cork Beo. The organisation is working to ensure the dog receives proper care while awaiting a long term home. [1]

The River Lee rises in the Shehy Mountains on the western border of County Cork and flows eastwards through Cork city, where it splits to form an island that holds the city centre. The waterway has an average flow rate of 40.4 cubic metres per second and its Irish name, An Laoi, appears in historical records dating to 1163 AD. [2][3]
