Canadian Climber Rescued After Being Stranded Seven Hours in Adirondacks

Forest rangers rescued a Canadian climber after he lost his equipment on an icy ledge in the Adirondacks and remained stranded for seven hours.

A 60-year-old Canadian man was rescued from the Adirondacks in Keene, New York, after standing in one spot for seven hours on an icy ledge, KLTV.com, KOLN, and ABC7 WWSB reported. The man sent a satellite beacon call for help at around 6:30 p.m. after losing his crampons, which left him unable to move safely on the icy surface. [1][2][3]

New York Forest Rangers responded to the emergency signal and reached the stranded climber at approximately 1:00 a.m. to begin the rescue process. Forest Ranger Jenna Curcio stated that securing the man was critical, as a slip before he was tethered could have resulted in a fatal fall. [1]

According to KLTV.com, the rescue took place along the Trap Dike route, which is classified as a fourth-class climb. Forest rangers noted that several fatalities have previously occurred along this specific route. [1]
