The Australian Foundation for Disaster Relief officially launched in Sydney and raised $90,000 in 30 minutes for its Nepal Flood Relief Initiative, Desi Australia reported. Community members, dignitaries, and business professionals gathered to support the new humanitarian group during the fundraising event on Sunday, 18 October 2026. [1]

According to Desi Australia, the launch took place at Grand Royale in Granville. Supporters gathered to assist communities affected by natural disasters, showing immediate backing for the initiative. [1]

The relief effort follows major flooding in the region. Flash floods and debris flows struck along a 72-kilometre stretch of the Trishuli River in Nepal and destroyed the Gyirong Port on the China-Nepal border on 26 August 2026. [2]

Sydney is the capital of New South Wales and the largest city in Australia. The funds raised during the Sydney launch will go directly towards helping communities impacted by the disaster. [1][4]
