The World Health Organization is assisting Nigeria after health officials confirmed the country's first case of Ebola Bundibugyo virus disease. UN News, The Guardian, Sky News, the BBC, and NPR all reported that Nigeria confirmed an Ebola case. According to UN News and NPR, the patient is a woman who arrived in the national capital of Abuja after travelling from Uganda. [1][2][3][4][5]

UN News reported that the woman began showing symptoms on 7 October, which was four days after her arrival. She sought medical care at a private health facility in Abuja on 11 October. Laboratory testing officially confirmed the diagnosis on 20 October. UN News added that the patient remains in isolation and is receiving medical care while health officials work to reconstruct her full travel and exposure history. [1]

The incubation period for Ebola virus disease ranges from 2 to 21 days after exposure, with symptoms typically showing after 8 to 10 days. The 2026 Ebola epidemic began in May 2026 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. As HEROIC BREAKING NEWS reported earlier, the broader outbreak has previously spread beyond the Democratic Republic of the Congo to Kenya. [6][8][9][10]

According to UN News, ongoing epidemiological investigations aim to determine the likely source of the woman's infection and identify potential contacts to prevent further spread. [1]
