Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher released 8.5 million dollars from the Central Emergency Response Fund to support the humanitarian response in Ethiopia, Zawya and ReliefWeb reported. The new funding will support water, sanitation and hygiene, shelter, health, and nutrition services. Zawya reported that the allocation will help address the urgent needs of more than 200,000 people across the northern regions. [1][3]

Humanitarian access continues to improve, particularly in the Tigray region, according to Zawya. Following the resumption of flights, more roads are now considered safe for humanitarian movements. Zawya added that additional food and medical supplies were delivered to the regions of Afar, Amhara, and Tigray. [1]

The Central Emergency Response Fund was established by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2005 and launched in March 2006. The fund aims to promote early action to reduce loss of life, enhance response to time-critical requirements, and strengthen core elements of humanitarian response in underfunded crises. [4]

As HEROIC BREAKING NEWS reported earlier, the United Nations previously planned to reach over 202,700 people impacted by conflict and displacement. Relief efforts are targeted toward the Tigray, Amhara, Afar, and Benishangul-Gumuz regions. [8]
