Thirteen mine rescue teams will compete in the Underground Mine Emergency Response Competition in Western Australia from October 30 to November 1, the Kalgoorlie Miner reported. The event is organised by the Chamber of Minerals and Energy and takes place at the Gordon Sirdar gold mine, located north-east of Kalgoorlie-Boulder. [1]

The competition will feature a world-first scenario requiring responders to operate a closed-circuit breathing apparatus while submerged in an underground environment, according to the Kalgoorlie Miner. Participants will face realistic disaster simulations designed to evaluate essential technical capabilities, including underground firefighting and search operations. [1]

The event is hosted at FMR Investments' Gordon Sirdar mine site. International mine rescue competitions occur globally to test underground emergency response capabilities across different mining jurisdictions. [1][2]
