Two men have received national bravery awards from the Royal Humane Society for saving a man from drowning in the River Thames, the Wandsworth Times reported. Charles Maynard, a river boat skipper from Sevenoaks, Kent, spotted a person jump into the water from Westminster Bridge on February 18. [1]

According to the Wandsworth Times, Maynard alerted his colleague Ian Davis, from Eltham. Davis immediately boarded another vessel and used a boat hook to reach the man in the water. Maynard then jumped onto nearby Westminster Pier, ran along the structure, and joined Davis on the boat. [1]

The Wandsworth Times reported that the two men pulled the individual out of the water while facing the risk of being swept into the Thames themselves. After bringing him aboard, they kept the man warm and conscious until emergency services arrived at the scene. [1]
