Sister Annie Demerjian is to receive the Courage to Be Christian Award from the Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need later this month, Independent Catholic News reported. She belongs to the Congregation of Religious of Jesus and Mary and has provided care to sick and elderly individuals in Syria during the ongoing conflict in the country. [1]

The presentation will take place at St George's Cathedral in Southwark, Independent Catholic News reported. The ceremony will occur at 6pm on Wednesday, 18 November, during the annual Red Wednesday Mass. The UK office of the charity created the award to recognise individuals who demonstrate extraordinary faith and commitment. [1]

The recognition follows previous awards given for individual acts of bravery, as HEROIC BREAKING NEWS reported earlier. Past recipients of separate bravery honours include a teenager who safely stopped a moving car when his driver collapsed and a pilot who defended his aircraft cockpit to protect passengers. [5][6]
