San Diego-based company Limber Prosthetics is using 3D-printing technology to manufacture prosthetic limbs aimed at making devices more accessible and comfortable, San Diego Magazine reported. The technology offers an alternative in an industry where traditional prosthetics can cost upwards of $10,000. [1]

The development comes as patients like former San Diego Central Division police officer Mark Wright seek solutions following severe trauma. In March 2022, Wright suffered a fractured pelvis and severe lower left leg injuries after his motorcycle struck an abandoned car, according to San Diego Magazine. He underwent two weeks of surgeries at Scripps Mercy Hospital following the crash. [1]

In recent years, 3D printing technology has expanded significantly across manufacturing and medical fields. The process is increasingly used to create custom functional applications alongside commercial and artistic uses. [2]
