All 42 crew members were safely evacuated after a fire broke out aboard a seismic survey vessel off the coast of Louisiana on Monday, October 12. Baird Maritime reported that the fire occurred on the vessel Rem Andes about 100 nautical miles south of Grand Isle, Louisiana, prompting the crew to initiate abandon ship operations. [1][5]

According to Baird Maritime, several crew members boarded life rafts and were transferred to nearby Good Samaritan oilfield vessels. The United States Coast Guard deployed aircrews to the location to monitor the scene and assist in accounting for all personnel aboard the ship. [1]

Local news outlet WVUE Fox 8 reported that the onboard fire was successfully extinguished by approximately 2:45 p.m. local time on Monday. No injuries were reported in the initial account following the response, as HEROIC BREAKING NEWS reported earlier. [1][5]
