Rescue team saves 86 year old rower stranded in freezing marshes

An 86-year-old rower has thanked a rescue team that pulled him from freezing flood waters after an accident in the Scottish Highlands. The Strathspey Herald reported that Peter Mackay of Kincraig lost consciousness in the Spey marshes after crashing his boat into a tree on Loch Insh. [1]

Mackay, a retired civil servant, was sculling on the loch when the incident occurred. According to the Strathspey Herald, his wife Sarah raised the alarm and recruited help after he failed to return. [1]

Mackay was taken to the Intensive Care Unit at Raigmore Hospital following his rescue. The Strathspey Herald reported that he considered himself remarkably fortunate to survive the ordeal after recovering from the edge of hypothermia. [1]
