Tributes have been paid to former RNLI Holyhead Lifeboat Station crewman Gareth Ogwen Jones following his death, Yahoo News UK reported. The station flew its flag at half-mast to honour the long-serving volunteer. [1]

According to Yahoo News UK, Jones was notably involved in a historic medal-winning rescue in 1976. He was part of a crew that successfully saved four sailors from the yacht Pastime during extreme conditions at sea. [1]

In September, Jones visited the Holyhead station to receive a painting by Ian Walton that depicted the 1976 rescue effort, Yahoo News UK reported. [1]

Holyhead is the largest town in the Isle of Anglesey, Wales, and sits on Holy Island along the Irish Sea. The port's historic breakwaters support maritime activity and Irish Sea crossings. [3][4]
