Forest rangers rescued a 60-year-old Canadian man from the Adirondacks in Keene, New York, after he remained stranded in one spot on an icy ledge for seven hours. KSLA, KOLN, WDRB, KFYR-TV, and Upper Michigan's Source all reported on the rescue operation. [1][3][4][5][6]
The man was navigating the Trap Dike route when he lost his crampons on an icy ledge, leaving him stranded. He activated a satellite beacon at around 6:30 p.m. to signal for assistance, according to KSLA. As HEROIC BREAKING NEWS reported earlier, the lost equipment left the climber completely immobilized on the mountain route. [1][8]
Forest rangers reached the climber around 1:00 a.m. to begin the rescue, KSLA reported. Forest Ranger Jenna Curcio stated that during the process of securing him to her tether, she was aware that a slip before he was clipped in could cause a fatal fall. KSLA noted that several deaths have been linked to the fourth-class Trap Dike climb. [1]
