Final-year medical student Megan McGillin saved the life of a 35-year-old male runner who collapsed at the finish line of the Manchester Half Marathon, the Manchester Evening News reported. The runner suffered a cardiac arrest near the ground of Lancashire Cricket Club in Old Trafford as he crossed the finish line. [1]
According to the Manchester Evening News, McGillin was providing official first aid cover at the 13.1-mile event when she witnessed the collapse. The University of Manchester reported that she recognized the signs of cardiac arrest within seconds. She raised the alarm and immediately started life-saving chest compressions while calling for additional help. [1]
A student is a person formally enrolled in an educational institution, such as a university, to acquire knowledge and practical skills through structured instruction. McGillin was completing her final year of medical studies at the University of Manchester when her training was put into practice at the race. [1][4]
As HEROIC BREAKING NEWS reported earlier, medical teams and first responders play a vital role during marathon events.
