A cardiac arrest survivor has reunited with the three off-duty firefighters who saved his life on a South Dakota golf course, Dakota News Now reported. Doug Swanson visited the Watertown fire station two months after suffering a medical emergency during an outing in Aberdeen. [1]
According to Dakota News Now, the incident occurred on August 20 at Lee Park Golf Course in Aberdeen. Watertown Fire Rescue Lt. Andrew Sebek, Fire Apparatus Operator Zach Ordal, and firefighter Blaine Marlow II were golfing at the location when they found Swanson in cardiac arrest. [1]
Dakota News Now reported that the three off-duty firefighters immediately performed CPR and used an automated external defibrillator on Swanson. They continued providing emergency care until bystanders and responders from Aberdeen Fire Rescue arrived at the scene to assist. [1]
The incident highlights the critical impact of immediate medical response during sudden cardiac events. As HEROIC BREAKING NEWS reported earlier, off-duty medical personnel previously saved a cardiac arrest survivor using a defibrillator during a running event in Middlesbrough. Human heart function relies on cardiac muscle contractions to move blood through four internal chambers. [5][7]
