The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights has requested urgent humanitarian assistance for roughly 40,000 people who fled unrest in Ethiopia to seek refuge in Moyale. The Eastleigh Voice, Anadolu Ajansı, Kenyans.co.ke, Citizen Digital, and Tuko News all reported that the human rights body raised the alarm over the displaced population. Moyale is a border town situated between Ethiopia and Kenya. [1][2][3][4][5][8]

The Eastleigh Voice reported that more than 15,000 displaced people are sheltering across eight temporary locations. These sites include St. Mary's Catholic Church, Harhosha Secondary School, Manyatta Burji, Sessi, and Lanzi Mosque Hospital. More than 20,000 individuals are staying with friends and relatives, placing severe pressure on food, clean water, healthcare, shelter, and sanitation resources. [1]

Specific medical needs are emerging among those who have arrived. The Eastleigh Voice reported that two women gave birth at Manyatta and two others gave birth at Bitiye, which highlights the urgent requirement for maternal, newborn, and medical care in the area. The Commission noted that the situation has reportedly calmed on both sides of the border. [1]

The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights is an autonomous national human rights institution established by Kenyan legislation. As HEROIC BREAKING NEWS reported earlier, local relief organizations have previously initiated emergency aid operations in Moyale to supply shelter, safe water, food, and healthcare to families fleeing border conflict.
