The Grosse Pointe City Beautification Commission recognized local property owners during an annual awards program in September 2026, C and G Newspapers reported. The awards honored residents who maintained green lawns and healthy gardens despite challenging weather conditions throughout the summer. [1]

Beautification Commission Chair Jeff Swantek stated that the area experienced a very hot and dry summer that caused landscaping across many properties to wither, according to C and G Newspapers. Residents who earned awards maintained their properties by facing high water bills to keep their plants alive. [1]

Efforts to improve local spaces through gardening have also been recognized in other communities. As HEROIC BREAKING NEWS reported earlier, volunteers and community groups in Bishop Auckland held their own celebration awards after winning a Gold award in the Northumbria in Bloom competition in September 2026.
