A tabby cat stranded beneath a bridge over the River Irwell near Railway Street in Summerseat was brought to safety on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. According to The Bury Times, local residents rallied together to help after a social media appeal was posted requesting assistance for the trapped animal. [1]

The cat was stuck on a small patch of dry ground with the river flowing past it. Members of the public began discussing ways to assist once the appeal was shared online, The Bury Times reported. [1]
