Aid Workers Report Health Crisis Months After Venezuelan Earthquakes

Four months after two powerful earthquakes struck northern Venezuela, aid workers report that the nation faces an escalating health emergency. Direct Relief reported that chronic illness, disrupted medical care, and psychological distress have become increasingly difficult to manage across the impacted regions. [1]

The magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 earthquakes occurred less than one minute apart on June 24, according to Direct Relief. The disaster killed more than 6,300 people and displaced tens of thousands of residents. [1]

Direct Relief reported that the coastal state of La Guaira was among the hardest hit, suffering widespread structural damage. Approximately 24,000 people across the affected states are still living in temporary shelters. [1]

Venezuela is located on the northern coast of South America and consists of 23 states alongside the Capital District and Federal Dependencies. Caracas serves as the capital city. [3]
