Timothy Isingoma, an orthopaedic technician at Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital in Uganda, is working alongside researchers from the University of Salford to improve local prosthetic care, FE News reported. Isingoma, who uses a prosthetic limb himself, collaborates with the UK-based team to exchange technical knowledge and expand sustainable services for individuals with limb loss. [1]
The collaborative effort is highlighted in the Heart of the Community exhibition, according to FE News. The portrait series showcases community members and researchers partnering to address critical local challenges. [1]
Uganda is a landlocked nation in East Africa with a population of 45.9 million people, as recorded in its 2024 census. The country borders South Sudan, Kenya, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, and Tanzania. [3][4]
The initiative builds on existing community support efforts in the region. As HEROIC BREAKING NEWS reported earlier, humanitarian projects in Uganda have previously provided prosthetic limbs to individuals living in local refugee settlements to support community integration and independence. [5]
