Faculty researchers at the University of Virginia School of Engineering and Applied Science have been awarded a 4 million dollar grant from the National Institutes of Health, News-Medical reported. The funding supports the development of an artificial intelligence tool designed to personalize treatments for people suffering from heart failure. [1]

The project is led by Miaomiao Zhang, an assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering and computer science, according to News-Medical. Zhang is working alongside colleagues in biomedical engineering and clinical staff at UVA Health to build an artificial intelligence model called GenStrain. [1]

News-Medical reported that the GenStrain model aims to help medical professionals determine the most effective type of pacing therapy for individual patients. The initiative focuses on applying advanced computer science methods to improve outcomes in cardiovascular care. [1]

Medical innovation for cardiac care continues to advance across multiple disciplines. As HEROIC BREAKING NEWS reported earlier, researchers at the University of Alberta have also been developing an enzyme-based process to make donor hearts compatible across different blood types, demonstrating ongoing efforts to address severe cardiac conditions.
