Dr. Cuthbert Simpkins, a research scientist and surgery professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, has discovered a potential alternative to blood transfusions for patients suffering from severe blood loss, WCAX reported. The founder of Vivacelle Bio created the treatment to address blood shortages during critical medical emergencies. [1]

When individuals suffer severe trauma, such as car crashes or gunshot wounds, they risk bleeding to death from hemorrhagic shock. According to WCAX, blood transfusions are currently the primary medical treatment used to control severe blood loss in these cases. [1]

Simpkins developed the substance during an experiment he originally anticipated would fail, WCAX reported. He described the resulting discovery as a potential solution that he calls better than blood to treat patients during severe bleeding crises. [1]
