Four public agencies in Oregon will receive a combined 16 million dollars in federal transportation funding to target dangerous roads and reduce traffic injuries and deaths, the Grants Pass Tribune reported. The federal investment awards four million dollars each to the City of Salem, the Klamath County Sheriff's Office, Polk County Fire District Number 1, and Redmond Fire and Rescue. [1]

According to the Grants Pass Tribune, United States Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden alongside Representatives Janelle Bynum and Andrea Salinas announced the funding on October 30. The projects are planned to serve local communities across Marion, Polk, Klamath, and Deschutes counties by identifying hazardous routes, developing local safety plans, and testing response measures. [1]

Road traffic safety projects focus on preventative measures to keep pedestrians, cyclists, motorists, and transit passengers from being killed or injured, according to Wikipedia. These initiatives complement efforts seen in other regions to speed up post-crash assistance and improve local infrastructure. [4]

As HEROIC BREAKING NEWS reported earlier, coordinated emergency response initiatives elsewhere have focused on rapid medical interventions following traffic accidents. The new funding in Oregon will allow local fire districts, law enforcement, and municipal teams to evaluate and strengthen their emergency response measures. [1][7]
